The second in a sequence on ethnographic methods, this half-term course addresses the central questions facing ethnographic research as it strives to be a part of social science. Among the issues considered are the roles of induction and deduction, generalizability, replicability, and linkages between micro and macro sociological units. Issues of ethnographic writing are also addressed, particulalry techinques for making descriptions of interactions, people, groups, networks, settings, and interactions. Meets during the second half of the semester. |
