| Title | Arabia in the 20th Century: From Oil Concessions to Osama bin Laden |
| Description | The emergence of the Arabian Peninsula is one of the most striking developments of the 20th century: in a few decades, the barren lands of Arabia have become a crucible of globalization. The course will present the history of Arabia in the 20th century, from the end of the Ottoman presence to 9/11. Students will be introduced to such topics as state-building in tribal societies, oil exploitation, Western hegemony, and Islamic activism. |
