This course introduces students to the main disease and health care problems worldwide and examines efforts underway to improve global health. Taking an interdisciplinary approach, the course probes environmental, social, political, economic factors that shape patterns and variations in disease and health across societies. Topics include: infectious and chronic diseases; development and risk factors; pharmaceuticals and public health interventions; public-private partnerships; human rights and social justice. Students are encouraged to think creatively about health problems and to envision innovative and effective interventions. |
