Title The Making of Modern France: French Literature, Culture, and Society from 1789 to the Present
Description The course explores the last two centuries of French culture, focusing on key periods of social and artistic upheavals. We will examine the transformations of Paris in the 19th century, the revolutions of 1789, 1830, 1848, the social changes brought about by two World Wars, and current debates on French identity. We will discuss a variety of cultural artifacts: texts, archives, films, and paintings.
Prerequisites Prerequisites: 107, 108, or equivalent. 207 recommended as a co-requisite.
