Description |
This course is designed to introduce students to a number of contemporary movements that claim to restore Islam as the central norm for practice in the social, economic and political life of Muslim communities and societies. Throughout the survey of discourses and practices by and about the so-called "islamists," their supporters and their opponents, the course will center on the reconfiguration of religion, self, community, culture, society, identity, and power.
